Since the invention of the online ads, Facebook marketing has continuously become a top priority marketing channel for most businesses globally while businesses in Rwanda have not yet embraced it.
According to Statista (2018), Facebook has 2.32 Billion monthly users and that is a very big market that most businesses are tapping in to build wealth except Rwandan businesses which are still yet grab that opportunity.
Surprisingly, most businesses in Rwanda have continued to go the traditional way of marketing by directing their marketing budget to radio ads and newspaper prints. While this method used to work, I would say that is no longer effective since no one reads the newspaper anymore or listens to radios that much.
On the good side, there are few companies in Rwanda who have started investing in Facebook marketing and running custom Facebook ads and that is really exciting. But on the flip side, most of these businesses are losing money on those ads because they’re doing it wrong and I will tell you why.
First, most businesses in Rwanda who run Facebook ads doesn’t know how to track and see if they’re making money on the ads they’re running.
Second, they don’t know the free and most effective tool that Facebook has created and put out there to help businesses in many different ways so that they could gain money on marketing instead of losing and that is Facebook Pixel.
Dear entrepreneurs, marketers, readers of this article, Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to introduce to you Facebook Pixel, the most powerful marketing tool out there that will help your business generate increased ROI in no time period. Stop spending on ads with no clear goals to achieve – I call that a waste of money which would otherwise be invested in other great things in your business and help it grow.
So what is Facebook Pixel and how does it work and why should Rwandan businesses use it?
Don’t worry I got all of your questions answered below and I promise by the end of this article you’ll be able to use it for your business and start meeting your marketing targets and build your wealth.
First things first, what is Facebook Pixel?
Facebook pixel is an analytics tool that consists of a code that you can put on your website and track your website visitors and see their activities while they’re on your site. This magical tool collects data about people who visit your website and give it to you so that you can use them to retarget them again over and over until they are converted into customers or anything you want them to be.
This enables you to get insights on the behaviors of your target audience so that you can know what can kind of targeted messages you can create and make them convert into potential customers of your brand services or products.
Truth be told, Facebook Pixel is not new, it has been there for some years, but Facebook keeps updating it and right now I am talking about the latest new and improved 2019 version – that is one we are going to focus on.
How does it work?
First of all, you will need to install the Facebook Pixel code at the backend of your website pages and then the rest will be super easy. If you’re already a Facebook advertiser, all setup will be pretty straightforward. If you’re not, you will need to set up an account and that is also super easy to do.
After you are done with the setup, then you will need to embed the code into the backend of your website and start tracking the activities of your website visitors. I understand this may sound a little bit technical but if you don’t know how to do it then feel free to contact us at Yobrand Group and will be happy you get started.
Each advertising account has one pixel but if you need more than one then I will advise you to use Facebook Business Manager. This will help you to track all of your accounts in one place.
The one Pixel you get has two parts and that is the Base Code and Standard Event Code. The base code is usually the base of the code that never changes while the Standard Event Code is the part of the code that keeps changing and that is the part you need to focus on.
Don’t worry though, I will shade more light on this on my next article to come in the next few days but in the meantime, you can check out this article that teaches you how to edit the standard code. After you know to edit and embed it on your website then sit down and relax and enjoy the results.
Finally, I want to assure you that this is an effective tool which will help you understand your target audience, the performance of your ads, and the conversions you get from running ads. In brief, this tool will help you to be more strategic when running ads so that you can have a better return on your marketing investment.
3 The major importance of Facebook Pixel
The Facebook Pixel has three main functions and that is – Conversion, retargeting, and optimizing Facebook ads.
1. Helps you track the Conversion Rate
If you are an advertiser, then you probably have the goals that you want to achieve from running those ads. One of your goals could be increasing the number of subscribers to your mailing list, or increasing the purchases or generating leads and so on. This tool will help you track those goals that you have set.
For instance, it will show you the number of people who have seen your ad and subscribed to your email newsletter, it will show you the number of people who have successfully completed purchase on your website, it will show you those who added items in the cart and then never completed the action or the purchase. It will even show what pages on your website that attracts most visitors and how much time visitors spend there.
You get the idea, it will basically show you everything and hence enabling you to track the conversions you get from your running ads. With that, you can decide what to change and what not to change.
Imagine running an ad that costs you $2 per click to promote the product that you sell at $50 and receive 200 website visitors who click on your product and make it $400 of your expense but only 3 of them buy your product. That means that you will be getting sales of $150 from your ad yet you have spent $400. So where is the profit? You’re losing $250 on marketing instead of gaining that. Why would you even run ads for that product?
And that is why Facebook Pixel is a solution because it will help you track all of these and you will get to know your conversion rate on every ad you run.
2. Facebook Retargeting Ads
With Facebook pixel, you can retarget all the people who have shown interest in your products or services by visiting your website but never get converted. You might already know retargeting or have heard of it or maybe you haven’t. Rest be assured, I am going to explain that in a few sentences down here.
Facebook retargeting is the way of using ads to retarget your audience who have engaged with your product or services wherever they go.
For example, let’s say you’re searching for cheap flights online that fly from London to Kigali, Rwanda in this coming summer and you visite Rwandair website to check the prices. Then after one day, you start seeing ads on your Facebook that says like …. Fly your dreams to the heart of Africa with Rwandair or fly with Rwandair from London to Kigali and get a 60% discount. And you start wondering why never saw those ads before until then
Next, you log into your Instagram account and you start seeing ads about flights from London to Kigali with Rwandair. You go to your Gmail account or LinkedIn and you start seeing the same ads over and over again. That’s when you know that you’re retargeted and you can’t escape.
Briefly, Facebook retargeting is a reminder to the people who have shown interest in what you do but never taken action. Therefore, you use the ads to remind them to come back and take action.
If you have an e-commerce store, the action could be like placing an order or subscribing or anything you want or else your ads will keep following your target audience even in the gates of hell until they take action that you want them to take.
3. It will help you to optimize your audience and conversions
With Facebook pixel, you can optimize your conversions to meet your ads for specific conversion events on your website. Remember the old way of marketing on Facebook, or the not so fun way, the only conversion you can optimize is linked clicks. But with this tool then you can optimize wherever you want to meet your advertising goals.
In addition to that, it will help you to customize your ad and target people based on how much they spend when they visit your website. Let’s say, if you have products that you sell online, then you can see how much they spend and retarget those who are more likely to come back and buy expensive stuff that you have in your store.
Lastly, you can use the Facebook pixel to tell Facebook to create a lookalike audience. This means that Facebook will target the kind of people who engage with your website and collect all of their data, demographics, interests, likes, and so on and create a customer base for you. These guys (Facebook) can do all the hard work for you and you can focus on other things like business development or something else. How cool is that?
To sum up, I want to remind you that if you’re not using Facebook pixels, then you’re missing out a lot. I am using this pixel and it’s working like magic and of course, I wouldn’t recommend something that I don’t believe in. Go give it a try and if you don’t like it come back and comment below and let me know why you didn’t like it and I shall let you know what you might have done wrong.
I am here to stay so feel free to come back later and tell me what you think and how you enjoyed it:)
